“If we’re going to change the way we eat, it only makes sense to do it veganically.”
(Organic dairy and beef farmer in transition to veganic cereal growing).
Is the ‘vegan’ food we eat really vegan?
Around 99% of the vegan food we eat is grown using animal by-products such as manure and slaughterhouse waste (‘organic’) or using agrochemicals that kill the soil and the living organisms in it (‘conventionally’ grown food). Additionally, farmers who do produce food for human consumption are dependent on the livestock industry to survive: a good harvest goes to the human food industry, a bad one is sold to the livestock industry, the income from which is needed by the farmer to continue to produce our food!
